The Economy Minister Niculae Bădălău said on Monday at the Automobile Industry Forum 2019 in Craiova that at the national level, the contribution of the automotive sector to the economy represented about 14% of GDP in 2018 and provided 27% of exports, but the Romanian industry has not been shunned by the troubles the entire European sector has undergone.
"At the national level, the car sector's contribution to the economy is major, accounting for about 14% of GDP in 2018 and providing 27% of exports. The automotive industry is not only a driver of growth and exports but also a good and stable source of earnings for almost a quarter of a million Romanians working in the automotive industry. We are not just talking about the two big colossal cars that produce in Romania, Dacia and Ford, but about 600 companies involved in the horizontal industry, "said Economy Minister at the Auto Industry Forum 2019 in Craiova, which he said was one of the most important events that the ministry organizes in the context of the exercise by Romania of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Bădălău stressed that electrification of motorways, connectivity, autonomous technology as well as digitization throughout the production chain will certainly bring fundamental changes to the way the entire automotive ecosystem works, but uncertainties arise in the medium term and are about what will happen in the next 10-15 years, especially as regards the current level of employment in the automotive industry.
'This is the question, which is valid, I strongly believe, both for Romania and for the whole of Europe. As robotization expands, and the Industry 4.0 industry paradigm will expand to the automotive industry, we also have the responsibility and responsibility to think about employee fate and developments across the economy. During the Presidency of Romania to the EU Council, the Ministry of Economy's priorities focus on the internal market and industry, sectors of major relevance in the current European economic and social context, "the Economy Minister pointed out.
He said that in 2018 Romania exceeded Hungary and Poland in terms of car production, which grew last year by almost a third compared to 2017, which allowed our country to be in an honorable place 8 in the top of European car manufacturers.
